Kristine Scullin received her Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University in Pomona and is a Registered Addiction Specialist in the State of California. During her career as an addiction counselor, she observed the roller coaster ride of emotions experienced by parents, siblings, spouses, and friends of addicts. Their heartbreaking pain, disappointment, guilt, and fear were always present, but solutions seemed elusive. These families wanted answers to some very basic questions: What can I do to help my addict?  What role can or should I play in my addict’s recovery? Where can I find help?

Throughout her career, Kristine has searched for the answers to these questions, and in this book she shares her discoveries, providing real world coping strategies for the families of addicts. These strategies are presented alongside a compilation of true stories that testify to the similarity of experiences family members share when dealing with an addicted loved one. In addition, Kristine includes quotes from clients participating in recovery, providing an
intimate look into the addict’s thought processes.

This volume includes study questions for family members to ponder and journalize as they develop their own strategies for dealing with the addict in their family. These same study questions can be used as discussion topics for substance abuse counselors facilitating family treatment groups.
